bothered by noise

An annoying condition that interferes with sleep, concentration, work, and peace of mind, not knowing why your ears are ringing and if there is any way to stop it.  Tinnitus is defined as ringing in one or both ears, constant or intermittent, high or low pitched, and can be due to many different conditions such as trauma, certain medications, history of being exposed to loud music.  Now COVID-19 has brought on the condition for an unfortunate many.  For some they experienced tinnitus after the vaccine.

This is from the prestigious Cleveland Clinic and is absolutely ridiculous:

What causes tinnitus?

Healthcare providers don’t know exactly what causes tinnitus. They think abnormal activity in the part of your brain that processes sound may be responsible for tinnitus, but they don’t know how or why, or how to prevent that activity.

real helpful information from expensive and well researched allopathic medicine!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), tinnitus can be caused by too much work and the push push push philosophy of our lives, as well as other causes.  Its a condition that is well described by TCM as kidney and liver yin deficiency, and they have been treating tinnitus successfully for ages.

In conventional medicine or allopathic medicine, the treatment for tinnitus almost always involves somewhat radical treatments and in severe cases of tinnitus, numbing the nerves.  Its another case of treating a condition and not the cause.

There is more achievable thru acupuncture and herbs.

One of my early and most successful clinical successes was a case of an older man with a severe case of atherosclerosis.  His cardiologist was treating him for that and had been told to stay off stakes and cut out the egg yolk, etc, but amazingly he wouldnt do it.

He likes his eggs and bacon and sausage in the morning and likes to have a steak a few times a week, even though he would get increased chest pain with certain types of fatty foods!

He had come to me for a case of severe tinnitus as he called it that was almost always on.  He described the pitch being high, and that its in both ears, and when it lets up, its for a short time only.

Even thou there isnt any literature (that I have come across) describing tinnitus being caused by atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries due to fat and calcium and other deposits on the inside of the walls of arteries), I reasoned that lowered blood flow to his auditory nerves is causing the nerve to fire on its own, aka auditory hallucination.

He also showed a lot of signs of what in TCM is called blood stagnation.  I prescribed an herb that helps with moving blood and also has been used for atherosclerosis and chest pain traditionally.   On his subsequent visit he reported that the frequency and amplitude or loudness had dropped by about 50%.  He brought in notes he had been taking on onset and duration and loudness of the tinnitus.  I was amazed at that success.   I wont get into the details of how I came up with that reasoning of nerves hallucinating when starved of blood (or stimuli…..think of the isolation tank) here, suffice it to say I had a very happy patient.

Covid-19, due to yet unknown reasons, also seems to be contributing to experiencing tinnitus.  The viral particle seems to be making it into the brain, thru the olfactory nerve amongst possible other routes, and even when the body is cleared of the virus, there still seems to be virus pieces that float around and can bind receptors that mess with normal cells signaling.  The virus and its components are also known to affect blood flow and blood thickness and clotting.  Maybe thats the contributor in cases of Covid induced tinnitus.

Whatever the cause, acupuncture and herbal formulas can pinpoint the underlying reasons for the tinnitus and get improvements based on correcting the underlying imbalances.
