About

My passion for acupuncture came about after a sports injury that left me in excruciating pain that was not letting up even after six weeks!  I seeked the advice of an orthopedic surgeon believing I must’ve really screwed things up this time since no improvement in pain or functionality after quite a while (6 weeks), and he advised me that the type of injury to my shoulder that I was experiencing did not need surgery and that it was going to take some time to heal.  He recommended I take Advil for the pain and let time take care of things.  At the time I was working in an immunology laboratory and ironically our goal was to understand and provide solutions for peoples health problems, specifically auto-immune related health issue,  and now here I was needing some help myself and the only thing available to me was a drug which brought with it stomach upset, liver toxicity, and was basically a coverup for the pain until the body healed itself.  I wasn’t too crazy about the options before me so I looked for other possible solutions.  A friend of mine recommended I try acupuncture!  I was skeptical at first because as a man of science, I did not “understand” how the insertion of a thin needle could possibly repair a badly injured shoulder where the movement was an impossibility.  I gave it a try however and after one session the pain had reduced so much that I was simply amazed and as a student of biology I  wanted to learn more; everything I could learn in fact.  After a course of treatments, I decided I must study this mysterious form of medicine and help people in the same way while trying to understand how it works and maybe even contribute in some way to this ancient yet scientific form of medicine and healing.  I enrolled in the acupuncture school in San Diego and it has been an amazing journey in healing.

Since 2005, I have helped numerous clients with a variety of acute and chronic health issues ranging from depression and anxiety to digestive issues, PMS, chronic pain as well as acute pain, and auto-immune related conditions.  I especially welcome difficult cases.

I studied Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego and continued my studies at the Maryland University of Integrative Health.

My extensive research background in oncology, pharmacology, and immunology allows me to truly bridge eastern and western medical principles and create optimal results for my clients.

Previous to acupuncture, my interests and work included research at institutions such as NIMH, Lombardi Cancer Center, and La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, where I made numerous contributions throughout my research career.

I have over 20 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals on subjects ranging from neuropharmacology; cancer research; HIV infection and host response; basic and applied immunology; rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and Sjogren’s disease; to electromagnetism and foundations of life (Download My ebook on Acupuncture and Immunology).

I am National Board Certified in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine by National Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAOM), and an addiction and detoxification specialist(NADA).
